Jodi Picoult Books

All I used to hear was “have you read My Sisters Keep by Jodi Picoult” and i’m like no, i only read Cosmo mags :-) .

So I thought what the hell, lets find this book and give it a go, and if anyone knows me i’m not a book reader, not at all.

Well I’ll tell you something, I love reading now especially Jodi Picoult’s books, so far ive read -
- My Sisters Keeper
- Mercy
- The Pact
- Vanishing Acts
- Plain Truth
- Second Glance
- Salem Falls
- Tenth Circle (reading this one at the moment)

Now i’ve got to tell you, if you havent read any of her books then you must, espeically starting with My Sisters Keeper and i’ve just checked out Jodi Picoults website (http://www.jodipicoult.com) and they are turning that book into a movie staring Cameron Diaz as Sara and Dakota and Elle Fanning as Kate and Anne…they start screening start of next year and im really looking forward to it.

Also looks like Jodi has another book coming out called Change of Heart…I still have a few more of her books to read, so hopefully I can read those before her next one comes out.

So who else reads Jodi Picoult?

Back Home

So my 7 week big OE holiday is now over :-( . Arrived back in NZ on tuesday morning and it was so good to be home, see my parents, sleep in my own bed and most of all not living out of a suitcase anymore.

It went too quickly but it was a blast. The trip was amazing, best experience ever and im so glad I did it. The 2 jobs I was working to make it all happen really paid off, even though I bitched and moaned about not having a life etc.

Will post pics after this weekend once ive gone through them all.

Loch Ness, Scotland – 6/9/07

Today was a long trip to Loch Ness which is located not far from Inverness. 3hr drive from Peterhead… and boy did it feel that long too.

When we finally arrived as there some some fights over the map on which path was the best one, we arrived at this gorgeous lake to have a picinic lunch. Unfortantly we didn’t see Nessie the Loch Ness monster :-)

After that we headed into Carrbridge to Landmark Forest Theme Park, the name speaks for itself. Got to see a squirrel for the first time, well actually a red squrriel.

We went up a big mountain called Cairngorm Mountain, they have this cog train that takes up right up to the top for $18 pound, we were pretty much at the top so we decided not to take the train, but to take in the views from where we were.

After being up the mountain we quickly checked out a resort shopping mall, way too expensive, so it was the trip back home, but of course we have to stop for some ice-cream.

Relax Day – 5/9/07

Today was a relax day, we were all still tired from the day trip to Edinburgh.
Slept in till about 8am, latest since we have been here.

Took a walk into Peterhead again this morning and had lunch down at the whalf.. another steak pie… best pie ive had.

Jim took us down to the pier and did some fishing. This was the first time I ever fished… and funny enough it was pretty cool, because i even caught something… hahaha it was only about 10cm, so tiny but i caught something. Jim took a photo, well we thought he took one. Had a look at the camera and it wasnt there and the fish was already put back into the sea, so i have no proof only witnesses. Oh well….

Headed out to Longside where Kurt went to school as a kid to check it out, like he said nothing changed, expect they built a whole new school block.

Went out to his aunty’s place and meet his other cousins which were pretty cool, even though they pretty much stayed in there bedroom the whole time we were there and only popped out when we left…..teenagers aye haha

Had a tradional scottish dinner tonight…. Haggus…..your thinking yuck! but actually it was pretty good, reminded me of sausages… but just the thought of whats in it sort of put me off even though it tasted good, and we had a nice German white wine with dinner and Kurt cooked dessert… Well put the apple pie in the oven and dished up the honeycomb ice cream….

Today was a pretty average day, nothing too excitng to report.

There is another day, maybe heading to Loch Ness…. wonder if well see nessie :-)

Edinburgh, Scotland 4/9/07

My flickr photo website is down, once its back up ill post some more pics.
Stayed tuned….

Wow where do I start. Edinburgh is an amazing city.

So our day starts really early was up at 6.15 to leave the house at 7.15am. Being in Peterhead we have to drive about 45min into Aberdeen city to catch the 8.50am train to Edinburgh…..morning traffic is so bad as there is only one way in and one way out of Aberdeen, so you can only imagine how bad it is each morning. Hence the reason why we had to leave early.

Arrived at the train station pretty much on time, got some great seats, a four seater with a wee table. The trip from Aberdeen – Edinburgh was about an 2 hour train ride… ride felt pretty long, but once we got there it was well worth it.

So after emerging from the train station which was Edinburgh Waveley not Haymarket we reached one of the main roads in the city……..wow was I in heaven…. shops everywhere…..but our first destination was down the road to Edinburgh Dungeons….you can see if here at www.thedungeons.com this was really cool experience… got a tour underground to different parts of the building where you had certain setups. First is the Judgement of Sinners.. they got members from the tour to step up to the stand, where she’d read an actual case. Brent (Kurt’s brother) got pulled up and his case was about a cross dresser that eventually got hung etc. After that one it was onto Torture and Disease, this is where they showed you certain tools from the past that they used to torture prisoners. Next was Burke and Hare Anatomy Theatre, Sawney Bean and then Clan Wars, the whole tour was about an hour long, was well worth the experience. One thing that was a let down was when we first arrived they took our photo next to this awesome back drop using props etc.. but purchasing the photo in the end we were told that the unit had broke………would of been nice to be told before i purchased a photo frame for the picture. Oh well shit happends.

Anyway enough of that blabbing on, not good with writing this kind of crap out but hey, someone out there is reading this.

After experiencing the dungeons we headed for a bite to eat and of course the boys wanted Burger King….I tried the BK Smokey Bacon Angus Beef Burger, pretty good but boy my stomach was sore afterwards.

Next stop was Edinburgh Castle…. oh man the hike up this steep street almost killed me…..so unfit…. We walked through the gates and they were just pulling down the grandstand where the Edinburgh Tattoo Festival was the week earlier which we missed :-( ….The castle was amazing….alot bigger than I expected. Just experiencing the history oh what went on back in the day and just the overall castle history was something ill never forget. So worth the $11 pounds. We must of been there for almost 3 hours. The views from the castle were breath taking, we had such a gorgeous hot day we could see for miles from the castle, and of course took alot of photos. Those that know me my camera is always going.
I have Scotland souviners coming out of my ass at this rate. Think Michele has a spending problem…. but hey im on holiday and ive worked my ass off all year for this.

Anyway back to it, after experiencing Edinburgh Castle, we ventured down The Royal Mile…. god damn havent seen so much souviners shops in one area in my life. They were pretty much next door to each other right down the street. Since it was after the Edinburgh Tattoo alot of places had sales!!! Michele loves a good sale.

We had abit of time to kill until we had to get on the train out from Edinburgh back to Aberdeen… so we headed out to one of the malls we saw when we first arrived. Oh the temptations to buy more clothes… but i resisted myself… JUST!!!

So we departed Edinburgh around 8pm but we had a stop in Stirling and wait for another train…. we didnt get back into Aberdeen till about midnight then we had a 45min drive back to Peterhead….. Long day but so worth it.

Aberdeen City

Sorry this post is late, but im sure you’ll all forgive me.

Thanks Troy and Kayla for the comments you left on my blog, its nice to know that people are viewing this :-)

So Monday 3rd September we all headed into Aberdeen City to take a look around, but most of all to shop, well for me anyways.
Aberdeen is about 40-50 miles from Peterhead, so its a wee bit out of the way but so worth the visit.

First off we headed to the mall, now I cant think what it’s called but this mall was pretty cool. Just the clothes shops are nothing like NZ.
It’s was abit hard not to spend abit of money here, but I did resist myself in a few things, still needed to leave myself some cash for when we arrive in London.

So we ventured around the mall and picked up a few things and headed out to the streets to find the William Wallace statue, and I must say this looks nothing like Mel Gibson hahaha, heres a picture of me and Kurt by the statue.

We headed down to the beach and there is this big amusement park that has all these rides (which is only open in the weekends unfortantly, and this was a Monday), BIG BIG arcade centre like Time Out but much better so we had a few games there etc. They also had Ten Pin Bowling so we had a game of that and I sucked big time…..I wont make any excuses as to why… I just pretty much sucked, came last with only 86 points… haha

After checking the amusement centre out we headed for a bite for lunch. Found this place called Frankie & Bennys its was an New York style place. YUMMY!! Has this really good Chicken Burger and have a pint of Stella to wash it down with.

Not really much else happened, checked out a few more shops and headed back to Peterhead and did some grocery shopping, man did we buy shit food… as in unhealthy stuff hahaha. Oh well got to keep remembering im on holiday :-)

Stonehaven, Scotland – 02/09/07

Yes i’m up again early, so I’d thought id blog yesterdays adventure.
So the plan yesterday was to head into Stonehaven, which is about 50 miles away from Peterhead, why Stonehaven you say. Stonehaven is home to Dunnottar Castle.

But before then me and kurt took a walk down the pier outside there place and down the beach to the sand dunes, that was nice. Being Sunday most places were shut because Kurt mentioned about heading to Whimpys its like a burger resturant, so instead just popped to the diary and got sum lunch… brought these microwave burger things, now your probably thinking how gross would that taste, but funny enough they were pretty good. We got too kinds and just halfed with each other Flamed Grilled Beef and Chicken. But also we picked up these Cadburys Mini Rolls, they were pretty good to but the best thing ive found so far is Milky Bar Moose Tubs, and those of you that know me pretty well is that i love white chocolate.

Cadbury Mini Rolls, they are like a chocolate sponge with a white creamy centre covered in chocolate on the outside, will try and get a picture of it.

1. Just a sign in the castle grounds that just explains what part of the castle is what, from the church, stables, brewry etc.
2. View of Dunnottar Castle from the carpark.
3. Us doing the steep decline to the beach then up the stairs to the castle.
4. Me and Kurt at the carpark before heading to the castle.

I must say this castle is the best one we have seen so far $5 pound to enter, think thats about $15 NZD which was so worth it, one thing I didn’t like about it is the amount of stairs we had to climb to get to the castle and get back to the car park, really showed how unfit i was, and my legs were jelly by the time I got back to the car park.

So after doing the tour around the castle we headed back into Stonehave town and grabbed an ice-cream, we were so hot from the walk and it was a beautiful day. Tried a Honey Nought cone, it was average but thats ok the ice cream didnt last long.

Town was pretty small but was good to walk around and check it out.

Found a place that is just like time out so we went in and checked that out. Haha i always like to play those games were you have to grab the chocolates bars etc…. should of seen my bag when we left haha, had a few munchies for the drive home.

Decided to stop off and try Scotlands McDonalds, brought a BBQ Summer Grill, but they forgot the tomatos, after having that i felt so ill… So dont think ill be having that again anytime soon. But the bonus was they were giving away free Coca Cola Glasses.

Lord of the Rings the first one was on last night so the boys sat there and watched that… feeling ill and all i decide to head up to bed and read my book.
